“A tranquil loft bed compact living apartment by the lake.”
+.
The compact loft apartment is located next to a lake, which is an uncommon sight to have in the city center of Jakarta. The apartment size is 35 square meters for the interior and 3 square meters for the balcony.
Initially, the apartment was a one-bedroom unit, with walls that divided the living area from the bedroom which we knocked down to create a spacious open-space apartment for the young couple.
The requirement is to come up with a solution that could cater to our client’s essential needs within the compact spaces, such as kitchen, dining, living spaces, study area, bedroom, and a lot of storage. Our client had a peculiar interest in loft bed design, which helps them to maximize the usage of the small apartment for activities by making use of the vertical space.
The design of the space is rooted in maximizing the space without making it feel packed. Floating furniture details on the bar island and tatami platform are added to the space to ensure there is enough walking room within the space. The calm tone of the wood is used throughout the furniture and flooring to create the illusion of a bigger room.
As you enter the space, you will be welcomed by the kitchen and bar island in dark grey colors, aligned with the L-shape walk-in wardrobe and storage that concealed the bathroom. The singular dark grey tone for the minimalist wardrobe serves as a partition while also providing a lot of storage spaces, with a hint of a navy blue accent.
The design focuses on the unity of space through customized furniture that is connected between the bar island, platform tatami, the study area, and the loft bed. Through unity, the shape of the element is carefully considered and tailored according to the client’s ergonomics. The study table also doubles as the stair step that leads to the loft. To create a sense of separation between the bedroom and others, wood studs are implemented to hide away the bed space for extra privacy, which is detachable for maintenance purposes.
The owner likes to spend most of their time in the study area which has a direct view of the lake. The calming wood tone of the bed structure is combined with the stone laminate and also gold accent details to create a hint of luxury for the space, while the blue top table makes the area feel more lively and calming.
The implementation of curve edges in the apartment helps to soften the mood while also creating a safe home within compact spaces. The Bathroom, which is concealed by the wardrobe, is washed in calm grey tone stone tiles which also bring the nature element of the space.
